“Education does not change the world. Education changes people. People change the world.”
– Paulo Freire
My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that real learning starts with relationships. Having come through a range of learning environments myself, I know how important it is to feel recognised and supported in the classroom. I aim to build a space where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and confident enough to take creative risks.
I see art as a way for students to explore, question, and connect with the world around them. It’s not just about making things—it’s about developing a voice, understanding complex ideas, and reflecting on personal and collective experiences. I design my lessons to bring in a mix of perspectives, encouraging students to work through personal and cultural themes in their practice.
Inclusion underpins everything I do. I adapt my approach to meet students where they’re at and try to create a classroom where respect, curiosity, and collaboration are the norm. My role is to guide students as they grow—not just in their artistic skill, but in how they think, empathise, and engage with the world.
