Reflections
Throughout my PME, I’ve built on my background in fine art print to deliver practical, adaptable lessons across a range of media. I’m confident demonstrating techniques clearly and supporting students in developing their own ideas. This has allowed me to respond to different learning styles and keep lessons hands-on and engaging.
One area I’m continuing to work on is Visual Studies. I’m still figuring out how best to present theory in a way that connects meaningfully to students’ practical work. I understand the content well, but I need to work on breaking it down and making it more accessible, especially for mixed ability groups. I also want to improve how I ask questions in class—moving beyond yes/no answers to encourage deeper thinking and reflection.
Classroom management and differentiation are areas I’m building on too. Discussions can lose momentum with certain groups, and I want to get better at steering these moments to keep everyone involved—especially in Visual Studies where attention can dip.
Timing is another challenge. I sometimes misjudge how long activities or debates will take, and that can leave parts of a lesson feeling rushed. I’m learning to plan with clearer time breakdowns so there’s enough space for both process and reflection without losing momentum.
